Asha is an app that will reduce the hassle of finding blood donors around your area and save your patient from death in an emergency. People nowadays face a lot of trouble finding blood for their patients. This app will help you find blood donors of any blood group in any area of Bangladesh. (Official Website)
Inspiration behind this app idea
I still remember that night! I was chatting about my career with a friend. After the chat, while crossing the road, a car was coming towards me. Maybe that day would be the end of me. But my friend ran and pushed me away from the front of the vehicle. But he was severely injured, bleeding profusely. It was 10 o'clock at night. A lot of blood was needed, but I couldn't find safe blood anywhere. At the last minute, an older brother donated blood from a nearby town. I might have lost my friend if that brother had not donated blood. I cried all night. The next day I was sitting next to that friend in the hospital, then I suddenly thought, last night, if there was an app I could use to send requests to all the blood donors in the city! I started working on this idea that day!
The Problem
According to Shomoy News, Bangladesh needs 13 lakh bags of blood every year. About 55,000 people died without getting blood. 35-40% of required blood is obtained from the patient's relatives, 15-20% from volunteers, and 15-20% from professional blood sellers. The remaining 20-25 percent remains deficient, or about 2.5 lakh bags of blood. On the other hand, 15-20 percent of the blood supplied by professional sellers is unsafe. As a result, the shortage and unsafe blood amount is about 40 percent or about five lahks. (Source: Read more)
The Solution
The app, "Rokto Proyojon" will collect all the relevant information of the user when the user installs the app and registers his account. This information will be used to receive and donate blood from others. Users can find all blood donors of any specific blood group in any specific area of Bangladesh and contact that donor immediately. Users can also view the history and availability of his donations. In our app, users can register themselves as a blood donor. When an user submit a request for blood, the app will send a request notification and SMS including the GPS location of that receiver to the donors having the same group of blood. If any donor accept that request, all the remaining requests will be terminated and the receiver will be able to contact with him/her.

The Progress
The app is still under development. But we participated in various competitions to gain more knowledge. And here's the output -
- We were selected as one of the top 20 finalists in the bdApps National Hackathon in 2022, where my high school team developed an app prototype that was chosen among hundreds of university teams.
- We were selected as one of the top 50 ideas in the Mujib 100 Ideas initiative in 2022.
- Selected for the Microsoft Startup Program for our app idea, "Asha - Find Your Blood Donor," in 2022.
- We were recognized as a Nationalist at the Digital Bangladesh Award for working on our app in 2022.
- I was recognized as a Nationalist of the Sheikh Russel Award for my activities and contribution to Technology in 2022.
